EDITOR’S PICKS: TOP 5

Worth the drive: Have you ever been to Centralia’s Anchor Festival? Just up the road about 22 miles north, it’s one of the oldest community festivals in Boone County. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (Pick a date and there will still be plenty left to do this weekend in COMO.)

Drink and Dine in The District. Throughout the month of June., there are special menu items and deals from your favorite downtown restaurants. Pick up a passport and collect stickers from participating businesses to be entered to win prizes. 

Compass Fest 2023 at Rose Park. For 11 hours on Saturday, Rose is the site of Compass Music Center’s one-year anniversary celebration. It’s an all-day showcase of live music and activities for kids. This is a ticketed event.

Mareck Center for Dance’s 17th anniversary season features Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Saturday and Sunday at Jesse Auditorium. Tickets start at $28. Mareck’s professional performance and staging is a wonderful gem for COMO.

Art in the Park 2023. Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park. This free fine arts festival, which started in 1959, provides a unique experience in arts, hands-on activities, and entertainment.  

FRIDAY, JUNE 2 

Drink and Dine in The District. Downtown Columbia throughout the month of June. Special menu items and deals from your favorite restaurants. Pick up a passport and collect stickers from participating businesses to be entered to win prizes. 

Centralia Anchor Festival, Friday through Sunday, presented by the Centralia Chamber of Commerce and Hubbell Power Systems. Carnival rides, vendors, live music, games, competitions, and more. 

First Fridays at DogMaster. 6-9 p.m., DogMaster Distillery, 210 St. James St., Ste D. A free art crawl featuring galleries, shops, and local businesses open with music, art, and cultural celebrations. 

Noah Erle at Cooper’s Landing. 6-9 p.m., 11505 S. Smith Hatchery Rd. Food truck: Lilly’s Cantina, 4:30-9 p.m. 

First Friday at Café Berlin: Aimee Marie, Thad Requet, Adventure Hat, and local markers market on the patio. 6-10 p,m., 220 N. Tenth St. FREE. 

Cowboy Bart’s Magical Band at Dive Bar. 8-11 p.m., 1116 Business Loop 70 E. No cover charge. (Come early for music and happy hour with MandaLyn from 5-7 p.m.). 

Muse Reclaimed, Art Exhibit. 6-9 p.m., Serendipity Salon and Gallery by Elizabeth Jordheim, 1020 E. Walnut St., Ste. 100. 

Friday through Sunday, Round 1 Opening Weekend for Hexagon Alley, 111 S. Ninth St. 

SATURDAY, JUNE 3 

The Good Knight Car Show. 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Bass Pro Shops, 3101 Bass Pro Drive. Sponsored by Christian Fellowship School. Fire trucks, food trucks, a food drive, and the Allen Boys performing. Trophies awarded at 12:30 p.m.

American Legion Riders Chapter 202 Car/Truck/Bike Show. 11 a.m.-4 p.m., American Legion Post 202, 3669 Legion Lane. Benefit for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. Corn hole tournament, arms raffle, sulent auction.  

Compass Fest 2023 at Rose Park. 1 p.m. to midnight, Rose Music Hall, 1013 Park Avenue. Celebrating the one-year anniversary of opening Compass Music Center. An all-day showcase of live music and activities for kids. Tickets $15 (kids 12 and under admitted free). 

Vox Nova Chamber Choir Presents: For Each Other. 2 p.m., First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1112 E. Broadway. FREE concert, suggested donation $20. 

Shakes’ Recess. 4-8 p.m., Shakespeare’s Pizza South, 3911 Peachtree Drive. The second installment of Shakespeares’ 50th birthday celebration with family-friendly recess games and activities. Showcasing nonprofit partners Rainbow House, Ragtag Film Society, Unchained Melodies, MO River Relief, Welcome Home, and Special Olympics Missouri.  

John William “Blind” Boone BIrthday Celebration. 4-8 p.m., John William “Blind” Boone House, 10 N. Fourth St. Live music, catered barbecue. Tickets $10. 

BBQ, Bourbon & Bluegrass. 5:30-8:30 p.m., Southern Provisions, 110 Central Street, Rocheport. Tickets $75 and $100. 

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. 7 pm., Jesse Auditorium, presented by the University Concert Series. Featuring a musical score by Tom Andes and Mareck Dance’s professional dancers. Tickets from $28. 

Contra Dance with 32 Bartenders and Claire Baffaut. 7:30 p.m., Columbia Independent School, 1801 N. Stadium. Tickets $5-$10. 

Pints & Punchlines at The Blue Note. 8 p.m., 17 N. Ninth St. Tickets $5-$10. 

SUNDAY, JUNE 4 

Old Fashioned Day. 10 a.m., Liberty Baptist Church, 7461 N. Brown Station Rd. Come dressed in your old fashion attire and bring a favorite side dish and dessert. (There will be homemade ice cream!)

2023 Annual Edible Columbia Garden Tour. 2 p.m., meet in the west end of the ARC parking lot for maps and carpooling opportunities. Take a tour of local, urban, food-producing gardens with Mid-Missouri Peaceworks’ Center for Sustainable Living. Tickets $5-$20. 

The Rolling Stops at Cooper’s Landing. 2-5 p.m., 11505 S. Smith Hatchery Rd. Food trucks: 850 Wood Fire Pizza, 12-8 p.m., and 2 Odd Dawgs LLC, 12-8 p.m. 

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. 2 p.m., Jesse Auditorium, presented by the University Concert Series. Featuring a musical score by Tom Andes and Mareck Dance’s professional dancers. Tickets from $28.
