2016’s 20 Under 20: Frank Gaunt, Hickman High School
Frank Gaunt, 17, Hickman High School
College plans:
Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
Favorite club or extracurricular in high school:
Young Democratic Socialists and Amnesty International.
Proudest accomplishment in high school:
Forming the first political club at Hickman — Young Democratic Socialists — with my friend, Gabe Gassmann.
Best advice I’ve ever received:
To always keep a wide range of academic interests and to not get too specialized in my knowledge.
Biggest lesson learned in high school:
That genuinely engaging the classes and activities you are in can be extremely rewarding.
What you do for fun:
CYBA during the winter — although my youth basketball career has unfortunately come to an end, as high school is now over — and Frisbee golf, once the weather warms up. Also, in my leisure time I like to read, especially James Baldwin, Ernest Hemingway, and European history, and this year, I began playing the bass guitar.
