What: A skilled nursing and rehabilitation center adjacent to TigerPlace by Americare
Where: 3003 Falling Leaf Court. A bridge from the east side of TigerPlace will cross Grindstone Creek and connect the two buildings.
Contractor: Brindley Construction; Pulaski, Tenn.
Cost: Approximately $14 million
Status: Started in February and is scheduled to be finished in May 2011
Why: Brian Donner, TigerPlace operations director, said, “There’s a void in the Columbia market for these types of rehabilitation services for the elderly.”
The current TigerPlace facility has 64 residents. The Neighborhoods at TigerPlace will have 70 apartments divided into different levels of care, a rehabilitation gym and a pool. Forty-two apartments will be used for private rehabilitation services, where patients will receive one-on-one care in physical, occupational and speech therapy. Fourteen apartments will be dedicated to people with Alzheimer’s. Six private rooms will be for hospice care, and eight apartments will be for long-term residents.
“There will be five separate neighborhoods under one roof,” Donner said, “so it makes it feel like you’re in a neighborhood type of environment instead of an institution.”
Donner also said there will be a transitional apartment designed to help people regain their normal functions. Patients will be able to practice everyday functions such as opening the microwave before going back to their own apartment.
