Cool Stuff owner Arnie Fagan has reached a personal and professional milestone, and the city of Columbia celebrated it with a proclamation from Mayor Bob McDavid.
“I’m 46 this year, and I’ve been in business 23 years, so that means that half of my life has been spent operating this store,” Fagan said.
In honor of Fagan’s achievement, McDavid proclaimed Aug. 28 as Cool Stuff Day in Columbia: “On Aug. 8, 1988, an eccentric entrepreneur named Arnie Fagan opened a retail gift store named Cool Stuff in Columbia, Mo., which he has continuously operated in the downtown district for the last 23 years, … and through the years, Cool Stuff has created jobs for more than 600 citizens, from teenagers to octogenarians, and served more than 1 million customers.”
Fagan said that his store will hold parties and other special events through the coming year.
