Hansman Custom Homes is building two houses in The Cascades, both of them speculative.
John Hansman said of the 30 homes he built in the past year, 10 were in The Cascades. He estimated 60 percent of the homes he built last year were speculative — and they’ve all been purchased.
“The demand has been pretty good,” Hansman said. “I’ve found that some people are looking for new homes in more established subdivisions … so they don’t have to deal with the mess of new construction” in an entire neighborhood.
Rusty Smarr, president of Smarr Custom Homes, is putting the finishing touches on the spec home he is building in The Cascades. Smarr said he was fortunate, and the home has already sold. Right now he is staying busy with custom homes rather than specs, and that’s how he prefers it.
