Logboat Brewing: Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement Award Winner
Logboat Brewing Co. brews its own beer and distributes it to local bars in mid-Missouri and St. Louis. Logboat lets people taste the beer, watch them make it — and they throw parties in their yard. What more could we ask for?
Tyson Hunt, the CEO of the company and one of the co-founders, refers to himself as the captain. He is responsible for expansion management, checking in with all aspects of the team, and handling financial and legal issues.
It’s no surprise Logboat was a winner of the Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement Award. The company takes many measures to remain environmentally conscious. From the building itself to the electricity and water use, the company makes sure to keep the environment in mind.
Most of the Logboat building was built using reclaimed parts of an old schoolhouse and reclaimed barn wood. Elmwood Reclaim Timber built bar tops, tabletops, and the conference room table. By using reclaimed materials, the company didn’t have to use newly cut trees to build.
For their electricity efforts, the company used Solatude lights, which take in and magnify sunlight. The company installed six lights to reduce electricity in the building. They also put in water conservation efforts in the design of the brew house and how their brewing process.
Hunt said the company is full of outdoors people — they love the rivers and forests of Missouri.
“We should leave the place better than how we found it,” Hunt says. “I want my children to see the world is a better place because of the generation before them. It’s a big task, and it’s everyone’s job.”
Hunt adds it’s important to talk to other people when finding resources to help the environment.
“There are a lot of great resources in and out of Columbia on how to be better stewards,” he says. “Don’t try to do it on your own. Learn about environmental stewardship. Help your bottom-line and the environment.”
