Women unite in entrepreneurship

In Good Company, a local conference for women who run—or want to start—their own businesses, is back for its second-annual round of panel discussions, keynote speakers, meals and networking opportunities.

This year the two-day event features a visit with Brenda Newberry, CEO of The Newberry Group. After working for 20 years in network and systems software, Newberry founded her information- technology consulting business in St. Charles, Mo., in 1996. The company now boasts 135 employees and conducts operations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, New York, Florida and Bahrain.

The firm has garnered dozens of honors from organizations including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. State Celebration Commission of Missouri, Deloitte Touché, the Missouri Small Business Association, the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc.

Newberry, who holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in business management, serves as an associate professor at Washington University in St. Louis and is a member of the Washington University National Council for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

To hear how Newberry rose to success as the head of a multimillion-dollar IT firm, be sure to catch the In Good Company reception, networking session and “Inspired Entrepreneurship” talk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Reynolds Alumni Center. The conference continues at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 26 with breakfast, educational sessions, a panel discussion titled “How to Work a Room—Networking for Introverts” and a luncheon keynote address by Michele Stauffer, founder and CEO of Kansas Aircraft Corporation.
