Stephen Bybee

Stephen Bybee currently serves as the project director for Missouri Conservation Corps. He graduated in 1994 fromWestminster College with a degree in English and then moved to Colorado for a year to serve as a volunteer for the U.S. Forest Service. After returning to Columbia in 1995, Stephen studied art and photography at Columbia College and the University of Missouri. He became involved in environmental volunteerism in 2015 when he began working with the Outdoor Classroom Committee at Russell Elementary School. In addition to his work with Missouri Conservation Corps, Stephen is also president of the Columbia Historic Preservation Commission, a member of the Columbia Tree Board, vice president of the County House Branch Neighborhood Association, and an active volunteer in the community. In 2022, Stephen was awarded the Columbia Missourian Progress Award in Sustainability, and in 2025 he received the Conservation Medal from the Columbia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Stephen is committed to the power of volunteering to positively benefit and transform the community. When he has free time, he enjoys photography, reading, running on an amateur level, and researching and preserving the history of Columbia and central Missouri.
