Flyover will always be my go-to. Constantly changing menu with a few staples. Their “frequent flyers” such as the chicken fried cauliflower with smoked sweet potato puree or their wood fired pretzels with boursin cheese will forever be some of my favorites.

A recent visit to The Barred Owl had me pleasantly surprised at the delicious maple-brined pork chop. The creamy polenta and rosemary-walnut cream sauce was a
home run!!!

Here’s my go-to list of menu items — a la Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. (There are certainly fancier entrees at white tablecloth establishments.) Criteria include popularity, longevity and iconic status of the eatery. The Masterpiece at Shakespeare’s; cheeseburger at Booches; BYFO wings at CJ’s; Blue Chip’s Cheese Bread at Murry’s; The Stretch at Broadway Diner; Marty’s Wings at The Heidelberg. Honorable mention: Shredded chicken nachos at El Rancho; Flat Branch Burger at Flat Branch Pub & Brewing; Zip Burger at Mugs-Up.

CC Broiler. Took an out of town relative there and the next time he visited he wanted to go there again. I always take people to Cafe Berlin because, 1. The food is fab and, 2. I like to impress people by saying can you believe this place used to be a gas station convenience store?!
