Columbia Police Host Active Assailant Response Training

The Columbia Police Department hosts a free training session Friday, November 3, on how to best respond in the event of an active assailant situation.

The session will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the CPD Regional Training Center, 5001 Meyer Industrial Drive. The training will introduce attendees to the process of planning for and reacting to an armed intruder, including decisions individuals may need to make if a life-threatening, critical incident occurs.

An active assailant is a person or persons who, intentionally, through use of a knife, a gun, a car, truck or other weapon try to inflict high numbers of death or injury on other people. The department held similar training sessions for the public in August 2022 and April 2023.

Registration for the training can be completed at this link.

No filming will be allowed inside the classroom and no weapons of any type are allowed into the facility. For more information, contact Police Trainer Michael Hestir at [email protected].
