University Physicians-South Providence clinic now open

The new University Physicians-South Providence clinic at South Providence Medical Park opened its doors for the first time to patients on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

The facility will provide a home for family medicine, general pediatrics and behavioral health outpatient clinics, radiology services mammography, urgent care, a laboratory and a pharmacy with a drive through, according to a press release. The project cost around $35 million, said Stephanie Baehman, a Media Coordinator for the University of Missouri Health System.

The opening was celebrated with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Around 500 to 600 people turned up for the event, which included speakers from the University of Missouri and guided tours of the facility.

With more than 200 employees, including more than 100 physicians, the new 85,512 square foot building is expected to serve more than 100,000 patient in its first year of operation, according to Baehman.

University Physicians-Green Meadows and Mizzou Urgent Care closed their existing locations to transfer their clinics to the new facility. University Physicians-Woodrail clinics moved a few of their services over to the new building, but have some clinics still open in their current location according to Baehman.

“We wanted to bring everything together and have room to grow,” Baehman said. “Our other clinics were aging, and with the new location, we have room to add more. We wanted to plan for the future.”
