Scott Wendling

Commercial Broker/Realtor, HoB Commercial Realty Group

Scott Wendling, Commercial Broker/Realtor

JOB DESCRIPTION: I assist clients with a variety of commercial real estate needs by providing services in buying, selling, leasing, tenant representation, and development.

AGE: 26 YEARS LIVED IN COLUMBIA: 22 ORIGINAL HOMETOWN: Columbia

EDUCATION: Hickman High School class of 2001; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with emphasis in Finance and Management, Columbia College, 2006.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Member of Central Missouri Development Council, past board member of Downtown Optimist Club, 2008 real estate committee member Heart of Missouri United Way, member of the commercial committee and credentials committee for the Missouri Association of Realtors.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: I was raised in a real estate family so I have been around the industry my entire life. I received my real estate license immediately after turning 18 and worked as a licensed assistant throughout college. After graduating college I was a residential agent long enough to know I preferred commercial real estate. In January 2008, I joined House of Brokers to create the HoB Commercial Realty Group.

A COLUMBIA BUSINESSPERSON I ADMIRE AND WHY: My grandfather, Jack Overton, was one of the greatest businessmen I have ever met. I admired his ability to succeed and help others at the same time. He was an asset the community and will be missed by me as well as many others.

WHY I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT MY JOB: I am fascinated by all things real estate, from the development state to end use and future redevelopment. My job allows me to be on the front lines of things and work with owners and users of various types of commercial real estate.

IF I WEREN’T DOING THIS FOR A LIVING, I WOULD: … go to culinary school. I love food and have always wanted to own a restaurant where I could be creative with the dishes and have fun in the kitchen.

BIGGEST CAREER OBSTACLE I’VE OVERCOME AND HOW: In the beginning of my real estate career I was often mistaken for my father by most of the realtor community. I established myself as an expert in commercial real estate and technology, and now he is usually mistaken for me.

A FAVORITE RECENT PROJECT: I’m working on the Academy Medical Village, which is located on Green Meadows just off of Providence Road. The site plan has been approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission and moving to the City Council. We have an end user lined up for one of the spaces and a lot of interest from the medical community in regards to the rest of the available space.

WHAT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PROFESSION: Commercial real estate is very different from residential real estate, so it is important to make sure you use a full-time commercial realtor when buying, selling or leasing property for your business or investment.

WHAT I DO FOR FUN: I’m a big Mizzou basketball and football fan. I also like to cook, try new restaurants with my wife, play video games and attend Knight Club (an underground chess club) if I have the time.

FAMILY: My wife, Jill Wendling, and I are expecting our first child in October and we can’t wait.

FAVORITE PLACE IN COLUMBIA: A Mizzou basketball or football game when we are playing Kansas. The energy in the air is simply amazing.

ACCOMPLISHMENT I’M MOST PROUD OF: Building a house and starting a family with my wife.

MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW THAT I: Know some HTML code, basic Japanese and sometimes beat-box when I’m alone in my car.
