BCNB customer service center

Employee break room.

-Simon Oswald Associates

Simon Oswald Associates was a natural choice for Boone County National Bank’s new customer service center.  In 2002, SOA had helped design the previous Customer Service Center. Having outgrown it in 2008, BCNB needed help with relocation and renovation of their new space.  Even though it was bursting at the seams, customer service center employees expressed sadness at having to leave the light-filled space that highlighted charming rustic elements of the previous downtown location.  As a design team, SOA faced the challenge of creating an environment that improved upon the old favorite, while compensating for past and future growth. Under heavy time constraints, SOA’s design challenges became clear: the design team needed to provide ample space for current and future growth, an efficient budget-conscious work environment, and a comfortable, invigorating space that enhanced the employee work experience.

Since employee retention is a primary way to increase efficiency, creating a pleasant work environment was imperative. Curved walls and ceiling features break the stereotype of a boxed in corporate work place. Floor to ceiling windows that perforate the entire north wall flood the space with natural light, as well as give employees a strong connection to the outdoors. Glass walls allow light to pass through multiple rooms. Finishes consist of bright colors and bold patterns.

Since a customer service center environment tends to be open, chaotic and noisy, a variety of spaces provide different levels of collaboration and privacy. Small conference rooms with glass walls allow for collaborative team meetings that block out noise while visually connecting to the open office. A small conference room without glass provides a closed space for private discussions.

As a growing bank, Boone County National Bank needed a space that would serve them in the present and the future. Reused systems furniture provided cost savings as well as flexibility. Workstations are adjustable and flexible to support different work habits, as well as new technology. Workstations are arranged to provide auditory privacy, as well as collaborative connectivity between team members.
