New Business Update: Orr Street Arts Warehouse
Orr Street Arts Warehouse
110 Orr St.
Three businesses have opened in the newly renovated warehouse next to Orr Street Studios. Mark Timberlake, who owns the engineering firm at the corner of Orr and Walnut streets, bought the dilapidated structures and converted them to office, retail and studio spaces. Tenants say there is symbiosis in the grouping of a café, a photography studio and a hair salon in the Arts Warehouse, which also houses the Missouri Contemporary Ballet studio and the city’s arts program for disadvantaged youth, C.A.R.E. “We help each other out, and recommend each other to customers,” Kate Gunn, the manager of Sven’s Kafe & Gallery said. “I like the vision (Timberlake) had for this space,” said Melodi Beach, the owner of The Beach Salon, who worked for nearby Kelani Salon & Spa for the past 22 years. Patrons of Sven’s Kafe & Gallery can watch people practicing ballet through a group of large windows that separate the coffee shop from the studio.
