McDonald’s on MU campus staying open

The McDonald’s restaurant on the University of Missouri campus owned by Mark and Kate Mehle will stay open another three years. The owners had said previously that the restaurant would close when the original lease was scheduled to end June 30.
The University and McDonald’s recently reached a mutually beneficial agreement to   keep the doors open, according to a jointly issued news release from McDonald’s and the university.
The agreement comes as the Columbia campus is expecting record enrollment. Also, the Brady Court Food Court on campus is closed while Brady Commons is being renovated and expanded.
“We’re pleased that McDonald’s has decided to extend the lease,” Cathy Scroggs, vice chancellor of student affairs, said. “We know this will provide an additional option for people on campus. The new menu items that McDonald’s has added provide some healthy choices for our students, faculty, staff and visitors.”
McDonald’s is the largest global foodservice retailer, with more than 30 stores in the Columbia-Jefferson City area.
