Property Protectors shoots for preventative home maintenance

Matt Ford wants Columbia homeowners to stop worrying about their houses. Through his new business, Property Protectors, he’s providing routine home maintenance to fix problems before they become disasters.

“I waited to create a business that made [maintenance] more affordable,” Ford said in an email. “It’s preventative versus reactive maintenance. Preventative is far cheaper. Pay small now or pay big later.”

For a monthly fee, Property Protectors offers services such as gutter cleaning, roof inspections, plumbing inspections, deck and fence inspections, dryer vent cleaning, AC condenser cleaning, HVAC filter maintenance and hot water flushing.

Homeowners may schedule an initial home consultation to determine the condition of their property and figure costs before picking a price package. These packages run between $39 and $54 a month.

Ford has been in home maintenance for more than six years. A licensed Realtor and property manager, Ford also owns a home-flipping business and another home repairs business.

Working with a team of seven, Ford hopes to sign up around 200 homes in Property Protectors’ first year.

“I would have nothing if it were not for the support staff,” Ford said. “We have a lot of synergy, and we make work fun.”
