Battenfeld Technologies to be acquired by Smith & Wesson

National firearm manufacturing company Smith & Wesson has entered in to a $130.5 million agreement to acquire local manufacturing company Battenfeld Technologies, Inc. Battenfeld, which produces shooting, reloading, gunsmithing and gun cleaning supplies, operates out of their 145,000 square foot facility in south Columbia. Battenfeld products are distributed online, through independent retailers and through several national retailers, including Bass Pro Shops, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Cabela’s.

The cash deal will keep Battenfeld operations in their Columbia facility, with current CEO Jim Gianladis remaining on as president and reporting directly to Smith & Wesson president and CEO James Debney.

“Battenfeld Technologies provides us with a unique opportunity to acquire a thriving company that fits perfectly within our core firearm business,” said Debney in a press release provided by the company. Debney added that the acquisition would allow Smith & Wesson to grow their already existing firearms accessories business, which he classified as a small but profitable part of the company.

The Smith & Wesson executive also cited Battenfeld’s dedication to innovation and annual growth rate of more than 18 percent as key factors in choosing Battenfeld for the acquisition. “Together, we have the opportunity to further expand our business and achieve a new level of success,” Gianladis said.

For individuals interested in learning more about the acquisition, Smith & Wesson will be hosting a conference call and webcast, open to the public, on Dec. 4, 2014 beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. To access the conference call, both live and on replay, visit the Smith & Wesson website under the Investor Relations section.
