A Good Dose of R & R?

Seems the troops over at Kilgore’s Medical Pharmacy are celebrating the retirement of their head medicine man, Bob Kilgore. While many would consider Bob too young for such a move, he’s been readying a departure for some time. Word is that he’ll still be involved considerably with both Columbia locations but will leave the day-to-day concerns to a group of employees-turned-co-owners. Funny how that timing coincides with the fall hunting season…

High School, Low Grounds

I know Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Chase has appointed a 21-member task force to look over many options for the proposed third Columbia high school. (Whoops, forgot about Douglass. Make that “fourth” high school.) I’m sure they’ll be very thorough in their investigation. That way, I can find out whether it’s true that at least one of the proposed, big, beautiful sites lies in a flood plain.

Speaking of Dr. Chase, the administrator has accepted the esteemed honor of being the next revealer in the Stephens College series “True Confessions of a High-Heeled Leader.” The fall installment will take place at Stephens’s Lela Raney Wood Hall on Thursday, Oct. 25, and yours truly will act as moderator. 2 CCs of Flaming Power

Looks like steak is on the menu, as CC’s City Broiler is set to open a second location in Columbia. The new 1,800-degree flames (OK, I’m not sure of the exact temperature, but I know it’s really hot!) will be searing juices on Forum Boulevard, not far from Stadium—as in, not far from Chris McD’s in the Forum Shopping Center. No doubt the CC’s team is looking to take a bite out of the upscale dining crowd in that locale. And seriously, between those hot spots and Forum’s DQ Grill, many a cow would be smart to avoid the area completely.

Yellow Journalism?

Jake Schaefer has happily departed his position as account executive with the Zimmer Radio Group to join Jamie Canine of Alliance Realty as the proud new owners of the Add Sheet. Jamie and Jake are having a lot of trouble containing their smiles as they plan their strategy for the 38-year-old Columbia Coupon Classic. Meanwhile, former owner Larry Grossmann (who retained his promotional products division) is flashing his own set of pearly whites. After all, you know what they say about the happiest days in an owner’s life…

That’s Art & Entertainment

Art Samuel, local general manager of On-Media, the sales arm of cable/phone/Internet company MediaCom, has been elevated to senior director of Missouri Operations. That leaves him overseeing Columbia, Jefferson City, Springfield, Excelsior Springs … in fact, everywhere the sun shines on MediaCom in the Show-Me State. With his new position, Art is in need of a travel mug, as well as a new director of sales in the central Missouri market.
